About
The company behind WMail.
WMail is made by WOW Media, a UK company that has been running since 2007. We built WMail because we wanted a calmer way to get through email.
“I love finding ways to be more productive. Email can take up so much of your day so I wanted to build something to help stop this. WMail is the email app I always wanted: fast, calming and built to save time.”

Who we are
WOW Media is an award-winning business that started in 2007 out of the UK. WMail isn’t a weekend experiment or a startup chasing its next funding round. It’s made by a long-running business that plans to be here to look after it.
You don’t have to take our word for it: our company number and ICO registration are listed on this page, and you can look us up on Companies House or find out more at wowmedia.net.
When you use WMail, you’re dealing with a real company, with terms governed by the laws of England and Wales and an easy to understand privacy policy.
Why we built it
We’re big fans of productivity: getting the most out of the day and spending less of it on things that don’t matter. Being productive shouldn’t mean spending hours in email though. Most email apps are built to pull you back in, with a badge, a buzz and one more thing to check.
We wanted the opposite. An app that helps you deal with your email quickly and then gets out of the way, so you can stay calm and focused on the work that matters. We want to help you stop checking your email 30 times a day wasting hours of it, because the cost of losing focus and regaining it on the task you were working on is massive.
We use Fastmail ourselves, and we wanted an iPhone app that felt as good as the service behind it. WMail brings Fastmail's best mail features, like Masked Email and send later, and builds power-user features on top to make the experience more productive and calm.
Built to keep you calm and focused
The idea of keeping calm, focused and productive is built into WMail from the start, here are some of the features that help you achieve this:
- Pause the inbox — set evenings and weekends aside and your inbox waits until you’re back. Mail still arrives, you just don’t see it.
- Templates — save the replies you write again and again, and send them with a short shortcut.
- Easy and mass unsubscribe — get off the lists you no longer want to get mail from, one at a time or many at once.
- Newsletter bundles — the newsletters you do want arrive together, at a time you choose, instead of trickling in all day.
- Quick reply and snooze — answer in a line without opening a full composer, or push a conversation to when you can actually deal with it.
- No notifications for new email — we offer push notifications for intentional reminders like snoozed emails, newsletter bundles and reminders to check your inbox before it pauses. However, we don’t send notifications for new emails.
Your mail stays yours
WMail talks straight from your iPhone to Fastmail. There is no WMail server in between, so we never see, store or read your email. One of the reasons we can achieve this is because we don’t offer cloud push notifications, only local notifications.
- Your API token is kept in the iOS Keychain on your device and only ever sent to your mail provider.
- If you purchase WMail Pro, this is done through the App Store. We never see your payment details.
- No ads, and we never sell your data.
The full details are in our privacy policy.
How we make money
WMail is free to download, and all the core mail features are free. We make our money from WMail Pro, an optional upgrade for power features like templates and newsletter bundles, bought and managed through the App Store.
That’s it. There are no ads in WMail, and we don’t sell or share your data with anyone. You’re the customer, not the product. The one other thing to know: if you sign up to Fastmail through a link on our site, Fastmail pays us a referral fee. It doesn’t cost you anything extra to go through our referral link.
If you ever leave WMail
Your email lives in your Fastmail account, not in WMail. The app is a window into it, so if you delete WMail, switch to another app, or WMail ever stops being updated, nothing is lost. Your mail, folders and Masked Email addresses stay exactly where they are in Fastmail.
- Only WMail’s own extras, like templates and snoozes, are kept in the app and your iCloud.
- You can cut off WMail’s access at any time by deleting its API token in Fastmail’s settings.
- WMail Pro can be cancelled whenever you like from your App Store subscriptions.
